Laptops have become a fairly standard feature in our business and personal lives. There is something about the compact nature of these computers that convince people to spend the extra money to buy a laptop rather than a desktop. The question becomes: is size and convenience enough to really justify that price?

Computer affordability is not something that you should take lightly. With the current economic crisis, you need to make sure you are getting value for your money. In which case, if the portability is the main feature here, wouldn't it be better to go with the one that doesn't ruin your budget?

A desktop computer has a number of benefits inherent to its design. First of all, it is very modular, which means you can set it up and make sure it has the exact components you need. You can build a computer that has excessive amounts of RAM to deal with high end programs, or you can have the top graphics card to really enhance your gaming experience. At the same time, if you only need something for word processing and Web browsing, you can save money and get the exact computer you need.

Laptops can be more difficult to upgrade and customize. Add to that their keyboards and touchpads that many people don't like using, and you can see some possible drawbacks to these systems. So why are they still gaining popularity? Is it really all about the convenience?

In today's fast-paced business world, you can't underestimate the value of portability. Whether it is for personal or business reasons, people need to stay in constant contact with other and have the ability to do their work while on the road. Some people need to keep in touch with their social networks, others have to be able to access important business documents everywhere they go.

Laptops are evolving very quickly and have now reached the point where you can get some sleek and light and portable computers that can handle all your computing needs. Even though they are small, they still can offer all the processing power of their larger counterparts.

It should also be pointed out that even though laptops have been (and are) more expensive than desktops, the prices have been steadily coming down. Technology continues to improve and manufacturers continue to find way to make their laptops more affordable.

The economy is making things tough for a lot of people, but laptops continue to grow in popularity because the portability means they can be productive no matter where they go. And if they can maintain those standards of productivity, they have a better chance of getting out of tough times. That means laptops are really more of a wise investment.
